New Centennial Trail Parking Lot

 A new parking lot for the Centennial Trail will be open for vehicles Friday morning at the end of Maringo Drive in Spokane Valley.

For years, the only place to park at the Maringo trailhead was on the streets of the residential areas. Now there will be 12 spaces for people who plan to enjoy the trail. The improved trailhead also includes restrooms and drinking fountain.

There are no fees at this parking lot, or at any of the City of Spokane or Spokane Valley Centennial Trailheads.

The Greater Spokane Substance Abuse Council and the Spokane Violent Crime Gang Enforcement team have launched a new website aimed at stopping and preventing gangs in the area.

www.Stopspokanegangs.org is dedicated to educating people about gangs in the area, how to recognize gan activity in neighborhoods and the dangers of kids joining gangs.

Thrift Store Helps Refugees In Spokane

A little know fact about Spokane: the City is home to thousands of refugees from throughout the World, Burma, Napal, Sudan, Rwanda. And thanks to a non-profit organization called Global Neighborhood, these refugees are getting a leg up in their new home.

It's latest effort: a thrift store, dedicated to helping give these refugees jobs, a chance to make money and a chance to gain valuable work experience.

Spokane County Awarded Nearly $4 Million in Grants

Spokane County Awarded Nearly $4 Million in Grants

Washington State Recreation and Conservation Funding Board has released a list of grants awarded to various Washington State Counties for 2011. Some counties received over $4 million. Some received less than $50,000. Statewide, the board awarded more than $67.5 million in grants to 234 recreation and conservation projects in 35 of the state's 39 counties. More than 400 projects were sent to the Board requesting about $200 million. The grants were reviewed and ranked during the past year. While a few of the grants were awarded in March and May, the majority of them were awarded last week.

Spokane Interstate Job Fair

If you like cotton candy, farm animals and huge crowds then we have just the thing for you. The Spokane County Interstate Fair is coming up in September and the county needs to hire 200 people for temporary positions.

Those interested in applying for one of the positions must attend at least one of the job fairs at the Fair and Expo Center.

The job fairs are: Wednesday, July 13th - 4:00-7:00 p.m. and Saturday, July 16th - 8:30-11:00 a.m.
