Honor Point Military and Aerospace Museum, the City of Spokane and Spokane Airports are teaming up for a community-wide event to honor all past and present military veterans. "Welcome Home: A Veteran's Day Celebration" is scheduled for 1:00 pm, November 12th, in the historic Air National Guard hangar at Felts Field.
Col. Brian Newberry, Wing Commander of Fairchild AFB, and Spokane Mayor David Condon will be the featured speakers. The Military Order of the Purple Heart will be specially recognized, as will regional and local Purple Heart recipients.
Music will be provided by the Mt. Spokane Marching Band and the Brass Quintet of the Spokane Symphony. The ceremony will conclude with a benediction for fallen comrades by the base Chaplain and the playing of “Taps”.
“All veterans should be thanked for their service, courage and sacrifice,” says Honor Point president Tony DeLateur. “Partnering with the City of Spokane and Spokane Airports for a community-wide event that honors all service men and women is a great way to show our respect and gratitude.”
DeLateur says the program will pay tribute to all veterans, vets organizations and their families and will also include displays of vintage aircraft, military vehicles, historic photos of Felts Field and proposed improvements to the airport.
The formal program begins promptly at 1:00 pm with military marches, period music and the presentation of the colors. The program will conclude at 2:00 pm, but the gates will remain open until 4:00 pm. This a free event and is open to the public.
