Seats available for Spokane County Sheriff's Office "citizen academy" | Crime
Classes start next month for the citizen academy that Spokane County Sheriff's Office hosts every year. The six-week course teaches law enforcement procedures and tools used by the sheriff's office.
One of the perks of the course is riding along with sheriff's deputies on patrol throughout the county and seeing what a "PIT maneuver" does - using the deputy's own vehicle to stop another vehicle during a pursuit.
You'll also learn more about the firearms law enforcement uses, how forensics works, how major crimes are investigated and the different kinds of vehicles used during emergencies.
The six-week course still has openings for those who are interested. The weekly course starts October 4 is free and held every Thursday from 6-9:30 p.m. until November 15 at their Spokane Valley training facility.
If you'd like to attend, contact Deputy Pendell at (509) 477-6044 or email tpendell@spokanesheriff.org. | If you end up attending, let us know how it goes!
