Spokane Valley May Tom Towey and the City Council dedicated the city's first gateway sign this morning in a ceremony on the northwest corner of Thierman Rd. and Appleway Blvd. The sign was built as part of the city's Ten Year Anniversary celebrations. 

The sign not only welcomes people to Spokane Valley, but also distinguishes the city to drivers as they exit I-90. It is made of lighted steel and wood and has the City of Spokane Valley logo on it. The project was originally budgeted to cost $120,000 but it was completed for $72,000.

"This sign not only serves as a welcome but also as a heritage of Spokane Valley...it gives them a glimpse of what we're all about," said Mayor Towey during the dedication. Towey's first thought when he saw they sign was community pride and he is grateful that community members selected a design that shows the city well.

This City of Spokane is hosting 10 year anniversary celebration events throughout the year including a "This is Spokane Valley" video and photo contest as well as monthly community recognition awards in which honorees are given a key to the city. 

The Spokane Winery Association is holding it's annual Mother's Day Spring Release Weekend, so tell mom you love and appreciate her with a bottle of wine or an afternoon of tasting.

Spring is when wineries release their selections for the season and local wineries are celebrating with tasting events and other festivities. There are 21 Washington wineries featured at 17 local tasting rooms throughout the area.

The Mother's Day Spring Release Weekend events run from 12pm-6pm through Sunday, May 12th, at area wineries and tasting rooms. Tasting fees vary depending on the location. You can download a map of local places at http://www.spokanewineries.net 

Every mom knows that the price tag for kids clothes and toys can quickly add up. So why pay full price for brand new items? The Just Between Friends consignment sale is this weekend and you snag great deals on everything from clothes to cribs. 

Tyona Albrecht purchased the Spokane and North Idaho franchisees of Just Between Friends in 2007 and it has since grown so much that she has sold the North Idaho portion to focus on her biannual Spokane sales. Mothers from around the area can consign their gently used items and after the weekend sales they receive 65 percent of the profits. 

The sale features infant and toddler clothes, maternity wear, cribs, bouncers, tike sized furniture, strollers, pack-n-plays and high chairs. This sale even has a section of teen clothing. Volunteers helping out with this weekend's event were able to shop early yesterday and had first pick of the goods. Sunday everything will be half price.
