SCRAPS and Gregory Popovich are teaming up to find shelter animals a good home.

On Friday, December 14th, the Popovich Comedy Pet Theater will be at the Bing Crosby Theater.

The show, which starts at 7:30 p.m., blends family-oriented comedy, the juggling skills of Popovich, and extremely talented performing pets.

Each show features 15 cats and 10 dogs that were once strays and rescued from animal shelters. The animals perform tricks with Popovich.

Tickets are $22 for adults and $10 for kids.

Tickets can be purchased here.

Also, throughout the month of December SCRAPS is offering cats and dogs for only the cost of licensing. Cats are only $15 and dogs are only $25.

Time for more foster kitties

Time for more foster kitties

This will be a short stay for foster kitties at my house.  SpokAnimal had these 5 ADORABLE little ones that were abandoned.  It's my family's job to help them put on a little weight and socialize.

They are healthy and hilarious: 3 girls and 2 boys.

Dog hit on I-90 gets international help

Dog hit on I-90 gets international help

A dog that was trapped on I-90 for at least two days is getting a second chance at life - thanks to some international donors.

Spokanimal believes Peaches was hit by a car on I-90 near Freya sometime late last week. They got a call about the Peaches last Friday. She was found limping around lost hiding in shrubs along the freeway.

With help from police, they were able to get Peaches out of the I-90 corridor and transported to Spokanimal.

"We brought her here she had an injury to her leg and we put her on pain medication over the weekend waiting for an owner to call to claim her, but they didn't, I was just amazed," Spokanimal's Gail Mackie said.  "Look at the eyes, it won us over and how could you not help something like that?"

Peaches was badly injured by the time she arrived at Spokanimal. Her hip joint had popped out of its socket. The veterinarians couldn't pop it back in, so Peaches needed to have surgery.

She successfully underwent surgery Tuesday and will spend the next two months recovering.

Adopt these kitties!

Adopt these kitties!

Most of our awesome little "famous" foster kitties are ready for adoption.  The white kittens (all boys) you see in this picture are big enough and healthy enough for their new homes.

I call them famous, because of their names.  My kids were in charge of naming these critters.  When new owners step forward, I suspect some of these names will change. The boys are: "Tobey" Maguire, "Rocky" Balboa and "Paw" Newman.

Momma kitty, Snooki is also ready.  She is a beautiful, friendly cat that likes lots of lovin'.

The gray and orange tabbies, both girls, just need to put on a little weight.  They'll hang out at our house for another week or so, putting on a few more ounces, then, they, too will be ready for adoption. By the way, I should mention the controversy regarding the girls' names.

The orange one is Foxy.  Actually it's Foxy Cleopatra (from Austin Powers).  Before we knew she was a she, it was Michael J Fox.  The gray one is Katniss, named for the main character in the Hunger Games (unless you ask my daughters.. they call her Twanda.. from Fried Green Tomatoes).

Foster kitties; growing and almost ready for homes

Foster kitties; growing and almost ready for homes

My daughters and I picked up a very pregnant cat from SpokAnimal on June 29th (my oldest named her Snooki).  SpokAnimal needed a foster family to care for Snooki and her babies until they were ready for adoption.

The next morning (Hoopfest Saturday) Snooki had 5 kittens.  Weeks later, those babies are thriving, playful, and adorable!

Lisa, who's in charge of the foster cat program checked out momma and kitties last week.  She thinks Snooki will stop nursing very soon.  When that happens, we'll take her back to SpokAnimal where she'll be spayed and ready to be adopted.  Snooki, by the way, loves to be around people.  She is really friendly and chatty.

Another couple of weeks and her kittens will be ready for adoption.  Any and all will make great pets!

SCRAPS officer breaks window to rescue dog

SCRAPS officer breaks window to rescue dog

If it wasn't for the quick thinking of a SCRAPS officer, a dog would have died from being trapped in a hot car.

According to the Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service (SCRAPS), they recieved a call that a dog was left inside a Ford Explorer in the parking lot of the Spokane Valley Mall Wednesday afternoon.

When protection officer Francie Rapier arrived, she found a basset hound locked inside the SUV with the four windows lowered about an inch.

Although it was only 80 degrees outside, Rapier discovered the temperature inside the vehicle had climbed to about 97 degrees. She also saw the dog was panting heavily.

Rapier said she called the fire department, but neither she nor fire crews could get one of the doors unlocked to set the dog free. That's when Rapier said she decided to break the driver's window to free the dog.

When the dog was released, Rapier said the temperature was 114 degrees inside the SUV.

The dog's owner, Justin D. Dalton was charged with unsafe confinement and animal cruelty in the second degree. Dalton said he was as the mall to watch a movie with his son.
