If you are wanting to get to know your local candidates you might want to take the opportunity to come out to CenterPlace for an informal gathering at the Valley Chamber's first "Candidates Fair."  This event will be a "drop-in" time for the public to chat with candidates of any elected office with no charge to the public.  The Fair will be June 23rd from 3-6pm;  a convenient time if you would like to just drop in on your way home from work.  Cen

Filing Week In Spokane County

We're about to find out who's throwing their hat into the ring for office in Spokane County. Filing week is next week. Candidates can file starting Monday, June 6. They have until Friday, June 10th to get it done.

Candidates can file at the Spokane County Elections office from 8:30 Monday through Friday at 4:00. Or, they can do it online and pay the required free with a credit card.

Shea-Crouse bill would restrict use of unmarked police cars on private property

A bill that would restrict the use of unmarked police patrol vehicles on private property for certain administrative business was introduced to the house on May 5 by 4th district Representatives, Matt Shea and Larry Crouse. House Bill 2113 is intended to prevent situations like the August 2010 shooting of 74-year old Wayne Scott Creach by a Spokane County Sheriff's deputy. For now the measure has been referred to the House Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Committee for further consideration.

Candidates Announced for Vacant Planning Commission Position

Spokane Valley released the names of six residents who have applied for an open seat on the Planning Commission. When former Planning Commissioner Arne Woodard was selected for position 5 on the City Council, the position resulted in a vacancy.

Applications were received from:

· John R. Baldwin, a retired security officer

· Gordon W. Curry, a self-employed real estate broker

Spokane Valley City Council Seat Closer to Being Filled

The Spokane Valley City Council has narrowed down its search to replace position five left vacant by the late Bob McCaslin.

Out of eight people who applied, the council selected three candidates to be interviewed.

Those candidates are as follows:

  • Charles E. Hafner, a retired assistant school superintendent
  • Steven C. Neill,  a materials cooridinator
  • Ben T.

SPOKANE VALLEY, WASH---Eight Spokane Valley residents have submitted applications to fill an interim vacancy on the City Council that resulted from the recent passing of Councilmember Bob McCaslin.
