Take A Seat At The Silver Cafe

Take A Seat At The Silver Cafe

Spokane is on the cutting edge – at least for Spokane County's Meals on Wheels program.

The county is about to enter territory that has never been explored by opening a Silver Cafe to the public. Normally, Silver Cafes are built in senior homes, where those 60-years-of-age and older can enjoy a home cooked meal for very little or no cost.

The idea to open the cafe to the public started with Pam Almeida, the Executive Director of the county's Meals on Wheels program (not to be confused with Mid-City Concerns Meals on Wheels, which is a different agency.)

“We had been told many times before that our food was good and restaurant quality,” Almeida said. So she thought why should our seniors be the only ones to enjoy the food?

Almeida has been to the Moose Crossing Cafe along Nevada in North Spokane before, but on this particular day there was a sign that simply said: “Because of road construction, we couldn't maintain our customer base.”

They were closed.

Here Comes Santa Paws, Here Comes Santa Paws...

Here Comes Santa Paws, Here Comes Santa Paws...

Does that dog look excited or what?

What do you suppose he asked santa for? Beggin' Strips? A new tennis ball?

Your pet - of all shapes and sizes - can come visit Santa Paws Saturday, December 17th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

He'll be at Northwest Seed & Pet at 7302 North Divison.

They ask for a $5 donation for the pictures, and proceeds go to the Spokane Humane Society.

Oh yeah... if you "Like" our KXLY 4 Facebook page we'll donate 25-cents in your honor to the Humane Society. So far our fans have raised over $3200!

Celebrity Bell Ringer Day

Celebrity Bell Ringer Day

And I say "celebrity" very tongue and cheek because God knows if you had to pick between me and Conan O'Brien - you'd make a bee-line for the fluffy-haired man.

But alas! December 17th is Celebrity Bell Ringer Day for The Salvation Army of Spokane.

Your KXLY4 11 o'clock anchor Kalae Chock and I will be stationed at the Northtown Mall Macy's ringing a bell from 10am to noon, hoping you have some spare change to donate to The Salvation Army.

Spokane Valley to feature survey for community members to vote on welcome signs

Spokane Valley to feature survey for community members to vote on welcome signs

Starting Thursday through September 8th, you'll be able to have a say in what kind of signs will greet visitors to Spokane Valley.

Spokane Valley City Council is considering placement of signs in locations and on public facilities around the area to welcome visitors. They're asking the community to share their input through a survey that they'll make available on the City's website on August 25th.

The choices include six different types of signs selected by the City. They hope the community will choose the one that will best represent Spokane Valley and its citizens.

Sprinkler Vandalism

Sprinkler Vandalism

A couple week ago, someone broke the heads off of 80 sprinklers at Trentwood Elementary School.

This isn't the first time it's happened within the East Valley School District either.

I talked to a school official there, who said someone broke the sprinklers at Mountain View Middle School in the past.

Nobody has been caught in the Mountain View case and nobody has been caught in the Trentwood Case.

Though they'd like to catch the person who has done this, the Spokane County Sheriff's Office has received no tips in the case and there was no surveillance either.
