City Council to Review Bike and Pedestrian Master Program

For several months, community members and Spokane Valley city staff have been working to develop a Bike and Pedestrian Master Program (BPMP) to guide the future of bicycle, pedestrian and other multi-modal connections within the City. City Council will be reviewing the Planning Commission's recommendations during a staff presentation at the July 19th study session at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers. The meeting is open to the public and will also be available to watch on Spokane Valley's new SVTV Web Channel.

Inland Northwest Honor Flight is making it's third trip of 2011 this Friday July 15 at 11:55. Vets will be gathering at the Spokane Airport about 10:30 am...they will return Sunday July 17 at 4:20 in the afternoon. INWHF will be making a special presentation on Friday July 15 to the family of Pvt. Herman Sturmer whose remains were recently returned to Spokane. Inland Northwest Honor Flight continues to honor our living World War II vets for their sacrifices and especially those who paid the ultimate price--giving their lives to protect our freedoms.

Road Construction: Indiana/Sullivan Open House

Road Construction: Indiana/Sullivan Open House

Road construction in the area of Indiana and Sullivan is expected to begin in late July and last until early September. The $1.2 million project will replace the asphalt of the intersection with more durable concrete and install a new right turn lane from Indiana onto Sullivan. The project is funded by Spokane Transit Authority, the Washington State Department of Transportation and the City of Spokane Valley. To help prepare businesses and community members for the traffic impacts, an open house on the project is scheduled for Thursday, June 30th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Road Construction: Montgomery, University, Bowdish and Grace

The vicinity of Montgomery, University, Bowdish and Grace will be reduced to one lane at varying times between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. starting Monday, June 29th. The utility work on the streets will last through Friday, June 24th. Flaggers will be placed on the streets to direct traffic. A press release from the City of Spokane Valley says to expect brief delays.

Construction Work Closes Vista Road Between Broadway And Cataldo

Vista Road between Broadway Avenue and Cataldo Avenue will be closed from 7 am to 5 pm Wednesday, Thursday and possibly Friday for utility work.

Signs will reroute traffic via Bessie.

RoadCheck 2011

Washington State patrol troopers and inspectors checked nearly 12 hundred commercial vehicles during last week's three-day "RoadCheck 2011."

The patrol says they issued nearly 18 hundred tickets for violations, took 214 vehicles out of service for safety violations and removed 43 drivers from behind the wheel, mostly for record of duty violations.

One driver was arrested for drunken driving and two had suspended licenses.

Spokane Valley Earns a 43 on Walk Score

Even though Moses Lake has a lake in the middle of it, Spokane Valley still scored lower on Walk Score than they did. They earned a 43 which is described as "Car-Dependent". That means only a few amenities are within walking distance. Only 7% of Spokane Valley residents live in an area with a Walk Score of 70 or above.
